Curriculum Vitae of the Ambassador
Flemming Stender took office as Denmark's ambassador to Bulgaria on 1 August 2024.
He has previously been ambassador to Latvia from 2019-2023.
Flemming Stender has a long career in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs including postings as First Secretary at the Danish embassy in Estonia, as counsellor at the Danish embassy in Italy, and as ambassador at the Danish embassy in Latvia. He has also served as private secretary to the Danish Foreign Minister in 2002-2005.
He has a long experience with European and EU affairs as well as Nordic, Nordic-Baltic and Baltic Sea cooperation. He has previously been director of the think tank and cooperation organisation Baltic Development Forum from 2014-2018.
He holds a Master´s degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen and also a Master´s degree in European (economic) affairs from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
He is married and has two children.
