Denmark has a new government

Mette Frederiksen has been re-elected as Prime Minister of Denmark.

Mette Frederiksen has been re-elected as Prime Minister of Denmark.

Mette Frederiksen will lead a new coalition government consisting of parties across the political centre. The new government consists of the Social Democrats, the Liberals, and the Moderates. The three parties together constitute a majority government. Majority governments are a rarity in Danish politics, where minority governments have been more common. A majority government has not been seen in Denmark since 1993/94. The formation of the government is historic in several ways. The negotiations on the formation of the new government have been the longest in modern times and a coalition government represented by parties from both sides of the parliament has not been seen since the late 1970s.
